There has never been a more important time for students to be represented effectively and to have a voice in their learning while at college.  With the "Personal Development"  strand in the Ofsted education inspection framework learner voice now plays a  crucial role and the new Youth Social Action agenda means there is even more reason to engage learners in the decision making of their institution.

This practical workshop will provide an overview of learner voice and representation within FE, ensuring that delegates are informed in current legislation and leave with an array of practical tools to take back to their institutions and deliver with their students.

How will these sessions be different?

As representatives of the Learner Voice Practitioner Network, this hands-on workshop, delivered by practitioners with personal experience of student engagement in FE, will bring best practice from across the sector and make it applicable to delegates in their own contexts. We offer the only training on learner voice in the FE sector.

The objectives of the workshop are to provide:

• An overview of current legislation and policy, providing a backdrop relevant to all institutions
• An understanding of current practice within their institution
• A toolkit of practical ideas and activities to take back to their institution, enabling them to facilitate learner voice and representation with their students
• Specific ideas for engaging all types of FE students, made relevant to their context
• An insight into the national framework including NUS and the Learner Voice Practitioner Network, and how they can get involve.
• Access to a network of colleagues in similar roles across the country

How will the workshop benefit attendees?

Delegates will go back to their institutions ready and able to engage with students and deliver effective learner voice programmes, ensuring that students feel heard and that colleges are best placed to meet the needs of their students.”
